The 25th Batch of the China (Hunan) Medical Team in Sierra Leone (CMT) held a significant donation ceremony recently at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital. Attended by Secretary Xia Yinyin and Liu Siyu from the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, the event saw the handover of medical supplies, including over 60 types of medications, consumables, reagents, and other essentials aimed at bolstering healthcare services at the hospital.
In her remarks, Secretary Xia Yinyin reflected on the robust, half-century-long partnership between China and Sierra Leone in healthcare. Since the first Chinese medical team arrived in Sierra Leone in 1973, a total of 25 teams have served as “ambassadors of friendship,” providing consistent medical aid, supplies, and technical support. These efforts, she noted, have been well-received and deeply appreciated by the people of Sierra Leone. Secretary Xia also highlighted President Bio’s two visits to China this year, which further strengthened the bond between the two nations. She emphasized that the donated supplies would enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare, bringing tangible health benefits to Sierra Leoneans.
Dr. Samuel Ngaujah, acting director and head of the obstetrics and gynaecology department at the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the CMT’s enduring commitment. “This donation represents more than just material support; it is a testament to the deep-rooted friendship between our countries and to the dedication of the CMT to genuine, impactful action,” Dr. Ngaujah said.
In closing, CMT Team Leader Lu Chaoqun affirmed the ongoing mission of China’s foreign medical assistance in Sierra Leone. “The story of China’s foreign medical assistance continues to unfold, and the footsteps of Hunan’s medical professionals never cease,” he said, pledging that CMT would remain committed to its original mission to advance healthcare in Sierra Leone and further strengthen China-Sierra Leone relations in the medical field.
The ceremony underscored a shared commitment to advancing healthcare in Sierra Leone, with both countries vowing to continue working together to foster sustainable health development.
