The German-Sierra Leonean born football player Antonio Rüdiger of Chelsea Football Club has donated the sum of 1 billion Leones to the Government of Sierra Leone in order to support the President’s Free Quality Education Programme.

On Sunday, the 19th January 2020 president of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio met the UK based German Sierra Leonean football player Antonio Rüdiger on the margins of the UK-African investment summit in London.
In the meeting with Rüdiger, the professional football player donated the sum of 1billion leones, during the presentation he stated that the donation was his own modest contribution to the President’s flagship project, which aims to support over two million children in primary and secondary schools in the West African nation. He further complimented President Bio for his commitment and support to the human capital development, adding that was the bedrock of every national development.
Rüdiger was born to Sierra Leonean parents in Germany, his parents fled the war and resettled in Germany.
In recent times Rüdiger supported 11 unprivileged children from Sierra Leone.
