An Air Canada aircraft arriving from Los Angeles exited the taxiway after landing at Montréal–Trudeau International Airport on Thursday, prompting a temporary closure of the airport’s North Runway and causing operational delays.
The incident involved Air Canada Flight AC774, which arrived from Los Angeles. Airport officials confirmed that no passengers were injured and that all travellers were safely evacuated from the aircraft.
In an update issued shortly after the incident, Montréal–Trudeau International Airport said the aircraft’s exit from the taxiway led to the temporary closure of the North Runway as crews worked to respond safely.
“Earlier this afternoon, an Air Canada aircraft arriving from Los Angeles exited the taxiway upon landing. No one was injured in the incident. To ensure the safe evacuation of passengers, the North Runway is currently closed, which may cause operational delays,” the airport said.
Air Canada said the aircraft AC774 carried 156 passengers and six crew members, all of whom were transported to the terminal.
In a later update, Montréal–Trudeau International Airport confirmed that the evacuation process had been completed and that normal runway operations had resumed.
“We can now confirm that all passengers on Flight AC774 have been safely evacuated and that the North Runway is operational again. However, the situation has caused some delays in operations. We invite passengers to check their flight schedules before travelling to YUL,” the airport said.
The cause of the aircraft leaving the taxiway has not been released. Authorities are expected to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The event comes as Air Canada continues to face increased scrutiny following other recent aviation incidents involving its aircraft. Those events were unrelated to the Montreal occurrence.
In February 2025, a regional aircraft operated by Endeavor Air, doing business as Delta Connection, was involved in an accident while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft, operating a flight from Minneapolis, struck the runway during landing and came to rest off the runway. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) launched an investigation into the occurrence.
In March 2026, Air Canada Express Flight AC8646, operated by Jazz Aviation, was involved in a separate accident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The flight, which originated from Montreal, was involved in a collision during landing. Air Canada confirmed that the airline and Jazz Aviation were cooperating with investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.
