U.S. President Donald Trump says a new agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has been finalized, paving the way for the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and the removal of U.S. naval restrictions in the region.
In a series of posts published on Truth Social, Trump declared that negotiations had concluded successfully and that maritime traffic through one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes would resume.
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote. “I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

The announcement, if implemented, could have significant implications for global energy markets. The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, serves as a vital passageway for a substantial share of the world’s oil exports. Any disruption in the waterway has historically triggered concerns over energy supplies and rising oil prices.
Trump described the agreement as a breakthrough for regional diplomacy and international stability.
“This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region,” he wrote in a separate post.
The U.S. president also claimed that previous administrations had been unable to achieve a similar outcome.
“Many presidents have tried to make Peace with Iran, and all have failed before me,” Trump said. “The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace.”
According to Trump, the agreement includes provisions that would allow for mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz before the full resumption of maritime traffic.
“With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World!” he wrote.
The announcement comes amid longstanding tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have included disputes over sanctions, regional security, maritime navigation, and Iran’s nuclear activities. The Strait of Hormuz has repeatedly been at the center of those tensions because of its strategic importance to global trade and energy markets.
Qatar welcomed the reported memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward regional stability.

“We welcome the agreement reached on the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Qatar’s Prime Minister said in a statement, thanking Pakistan and other regional and international parties for helping create the conditions for the understanding.
The Prime Minister, Mohammed Bin Abdularahman Al Thani added that Qatar looks forward to “forthcoming negotiations in a positive and constructive spirit” and reaffirmed the country’s support for efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability through “dialogue and peaceful means.”
