The 26th Batch of the Chinese Medical Team has launched a two-day intensive on-site First Aid Training Programme for staff of UNICEF Sierra Leone. The training, which began on Monday at the UNICEF office on New England Ville in Freetown, aims to strengthen emergency response capacity among personnel.
The programme is designed to equip participants with essential lifesaving skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), trauma management, and other critical first aid techniques. Sessions combine theoretical instruction with hands-on practical exercises to ensure staff can effectively respond to emergencies in various settings.

Speaking at the opening session, Captain Liu Longfei of the 26th Batch of the Chinese Medical Team expressed appreciation for the opportunity to support UNICEF. “On behalf of the Chinese Medical Team, we are pleased to provide this first-aid training to UNICEF Sierra Leone,” he said. He noted that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding lives and enhancing preparedness during emergencies.
Captain Liu further explained that since 2024, the team has delivered similar first aid training to a range of institutions and individuals, including students and professionals in the mining and medical sectors. He commended UNICEF for its trust and collaboration.
UNICEF Representative to Sierra Leone, Rudolph Schwenk, welcomed the initiative, describing it as both timely and valuable. He said the training would enable staff to respond effectively to emergencies whether in the office, during field assignments, or at home. Mr. Schwenk also underscored the longstanding partnership between China and Sierra Leone, acknowledging China’s continued support to the country’s development efforts.
The training highlights ongoing cooperation between the Chinese Medical Team and international partners to strengthen local capacity and promote health and safety standards across Sierra Leone.
