Cameroon’s Constitutional Council has declared President Paul Biya, the world’s oldest sitting head of state at 92, winner of the country’s presidential election, securing an eighth term in office with 53.66% of the vote.
The announcement extends Biya’s decades-long rule until 2032, cementing his position as one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
His main challenger, Issa Tchiroma, who had earlier claimed victory, finished second with 35.2%, according to official results.
The outcome has sparked mixed reactions across the country, with opposition groups alleging irregularities while ruling party supporters celebrated the veteran leader’s re-election.
