Guinea is set to hold a constitutional referendum on Sunday, September 21, 2025, a key step in the country’s transition toward civilian governance. The proposed constitution aims to replace the 2020 version and outlines a new framework for the nation’s political system.
The draft constitution introduces several important changes, including extending the presidential term from five to seven years with the possibility of one re-election. It also provides for the creation of a Senate, with a portion of its members appointed by the president.
Approximately 6.7 million Guineans are registered to vote. The referendum will pass if it achieves a simple majority with at least 50 percent voter turnout. International observers are expected to monitor the process to ensure a transparent and inclusive vote.

The results of the referendum will shape Guinea’s political landscape and set the stage for the presidential elections scheduled for December 2025.
