Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney released a statement on Saturday backing Donald Trump’s push for peace and security in Ukraine.
“The leadership of President Trump and the United States is creating the opportunity to end Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine,” the statement reads.
He added that “robust and credible security guarantees are essential to any just and lasting peace,” and welcomed U.S. openness to providing such guarantees under the “Coalition of the Willing.” He also emphasized that Canada is coordinating closely with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and international partners within that coalition to intensify support for Ukraine’s peace and security.

The Alaska summit ended without a breakthrough. President Putin reportedly demanded that Ukraine withdraw from Donetsk and Luhansk territories still held in part by Ukrainian forces as a condition to freeze hostilities elsewhere.
