Gaza is now facing the most severe risk of famine since the escalation of conflict began, according to alarming new data shared by UNICEF. Food consumption and nutrition indicators have plummeted to their worst levels yet, signaling an urgent humanitarian catastrophe.
UNICEF reports that children and families in Gaza are barely surviving, with widespread hunger, acute malnutrition, and lack of access to safe drinking water becoming the new norm. The ongoing violence has crippled food systems, destroyed essential infrastructure, and made the delivery of humanitarian aid dangerously difficult.

“Families are surviving on a few scraps a day,” said a UNICEF spokesperson. “The nutrition crisis is particularly devastating for children, whose bodies are more vulnerable to the long-term effects of hunger and malnutrition.”
According to the latest data, Gaza’s population is enduring conditions that meet or exceed the thresholds for famine. This includes extremely limited food availability, skyrocketing prices, and widespread undernutrition, especially among infants and young children.
UNICEF is urgently calling for unimpeded humanitarian access, a ceasefire, and the immediate delivery of life-saving aid to avoid further tragedy.
