Canada will host the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting in Banff, Alberta from May 20 to 22, as part of its G7 presidency this year.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem will co-chair the meeting, which will bring together top economic officials from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. The agenda includes a range of global economic and financial issues, with a focus on cooperation among the G7 nations.

International leaders, including the heads of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the Financial Stability Board, will also participate. Ukraine’s Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko and the President of the Financial Action Task Force are expected to join select sessions.

Key topics will include economic resilience, global security, financial crime, artificial intelligence, and the ongoing situation in Ukraine. The meetings will be closed to media, with a few exceptions for photo opportunities and press briefings.
Champagne and Marchenko will address the media on Tuesday, May 20, ahead of the main sessions. A group photo and welcome ceremony with all G7 officials is scheduled for Wednesday morning, followed by the official opening of the meeting. Two days of closed-door talks will follow.

The event will conclude with a joint press conference by Champagne and Macklem on Thursday afternoon.
