Westwind Energy SL Limited has achieved a major milestone by winning the Clean Cooking and Building of the Year Award at the 9th ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF), held at the Abidjan Exhibition Centre in Côte d’Ivoire. The prestigious award was presented to the company in recognition of its flagship product, the Wonder Stove, which was named the Energy Efficiency Project, Clean Cooking Building, and Industry of the Year by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE).
The Wonder Stove, an institutional cooking solution, is lauded for its remarkable energy efficiency, boasting a thermal efficiency of 41.7%. It reduces wood usage by 60% and cuts smoke emissions by an impressive 90%, making it a game-changer for cooking practices in West Africa. To date, the stove has improved the cooking conditions for over 35,000 beneficiaries in Sierra Leone and Guinea, significantly contributing to both health and environmental benefits.
This award highlights Westwind Energy’s ongoing efforts to provide sustainable energy solutions that align with the region’s renewable energy goals. More than 60 schools in Sierra Leone and Guinea have already adopted the Wonder Stove, benefitting from its health, financial, and environmental advantages. The innovative technology is helping to advance sustainable development goals while demonstrating how energy-efficient solutions can empower local communities and protect the environment.
