Sulaiman Barrie, a young Sierra Leonean freelance video journalist and aspiring Medical Laboratory Science graduate from the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), has been honoured by the Girl Pikin 4 Betteh Foundation as one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Students in Sierra Leone”.
The recognition, themed “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders by Celebrating Students’ Vision, Impact, and Influence on Society,” highlights exceptional students from 16 universities and colleges across the country. The initiative aims to inspire others to contribute meaningfully to societal progress.
Barrie, known for his expertise as a freelance video journalist and editor, has made significant strides in Sierra Leone’s media landscape. With extensive experience working with many International media institutions. Barrie has provided media coverage for major national events, including the 2023 Sierra Leone General Election and the Miss Sierra Leone Beauty Pageant. His portfolio spans diverse topics, including business, technology, culture, education, and environmental issues.
Reflecting on the honor, Barrie emphasized its broader significance:
“This award is not just for me—it’s for my community. It will inspire many young Sierra Leoneans to realize their potential and drive positive change in society.”

During his time at COMAHS, Barrie demonstrated leadership and commitment through various roles. He served as a Media Expert for the college’s Muslim Jama’ah for three years and contributed as a media consultant for the Association of Laboratory Medicine Sierra Leone. Over the past two years, he has supported the Students’ Representative Council, including covering the inauguration of two former presidents and serving as the official media representative for Miss COMAHS 2023.
Barrie’s achievements extend beyond journalism and academia. He holds certifications in Digital Journalism from Reuters and training from institutions like RT Academy and the Research and Training Institute of National Radio and Television in China. Additionally, he serves as a mentor under the Tony Elumelu Foundation, further amplifying his impact as a role model for young professionals.
Barrie’s recognition is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to driving societal change, positioning him as a source of inspiration for students and youth across Sierra Leone.
