Donald Trump is projected to have won the 2024 U.S. presidential election, securing the 270 Electoral College votes required to reclaim the White House, according to the Associated Press. The 78-year-old Republican candidate became the 47th President of the United States of America and he defeated his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, 60, after a closely contested race.

Trump declared victory after being projected to win pivotal battleground states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. The AP later called Wisconsin in Trump’s favor, solidifying his path to a second term after his initial 2017-2021 presidency.
In addition to the presidency, the Associated Press reports that Republicans are also expected to regain control of the Senate, marking a significant shift in Washington’s political landscape.
