Sierra Leone’s former Vice-President, politician, lawyer, and lecturer Solomon Berewa dies at age 81. He passed away in the evening hours of Thursday the 5th of March,2020 at the Choithram Hospital in Freetown.
Berewa was born in 1938 in Bumpe Chiefdom, Bo District, he was Vice-President of Sierra Leone from May 2002 to September 2007 before that he was Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 1996 to 1997 when the government was ousted in a coup and then became Minister again after President Kabbah regains power.
He had 5 children and his wife has died earlier before him, he was the leader of the government negotiating team that ended the civil war during the Lomé peace accord.
In 2005 at the SLPP’s national convention in Makeni, Nothern Sierra Leone he was selected by the SLPP as the party chairman and the presidential candidate for the 2007 general election. In the first round of the held on August 11, Berewa came 2nd with 38.3% behind Koroma the opposition candidate of All Peoples Congress (APC) and it ended for a second round. At the second Berewa was also defeated by Koroma, of which Koroma has 54.6% as the winner and he has 45.4%. He accepted the defeat and President Koroma was sworn into office immediately and he then resigned as the party chairman also.
Since then he was not involved in any political activities till today. Rest in Peace our Dear Berewa.
